Initial Development

GarrettLoader was originally designed to be a personal replacement for DarkLoader with the addition of being able to play thief 3 FMs.
HOWEVER after showing it to the TTLG forums, the demand for it grew massively....as these things do.


Design Information

GarrettLoader is written in Visual Basic 6, with an aim to go to a Visual Basic .Net version in future. This does cause a few issues as more advanced technology like 7Zip is not compatable with VB as is.
It contains support for Thief 1, Thief Gold, Thief 2, Thief 3, System Shock 2, Dark Metal, Doom 3 and The Dark Mod.

GL contains:

• Zip technology by http://www.info-zip.org.
• MP3 conversion technology by http://www.un4seen.com. NOTE: the technology within the MP3 dll's allows more advanced manipulation of MP3 files, such as phasers, pitch bending, echos, etc, however this is not used yet.
• Thief 3 IBT Compression technology by ShadowSpawn from TTLG forums.

Version 1.42 Info

In version 1.42 of GarrettLoader improved support for The Dark Mod FMs was added
Also an automated patching and updating system has been added into GarrettLoader.
Additionally an IntelliText system has been added into the FM readme display to allow provide more information whithout displaying too much infomration.

Version 1.41 Info

In version 1.41 of GarrettLoader IBT compression was added, this meant that the majority of Thief 3 FM zips could be compressed right down as small as 1/10th of their original size.
Also an optional review feed from SouthQuarter.com has been added to display FM reviews posted to SouthQuarter.com within GarrettLoader. For this you do require an internet connection as only previews are shown

Version 1.31 Info

In version 1.31 of GarrettLoader a custom game support wizard was added, this allows you to use GarrettLoader to manage and install Fan Missions and mods for games of your own.
However this is limited and WILL NOT support every game available (it is unknown as to what and how many games it can support).
The process does allow you to script additional functions not supported by GarrettLoaders wizard and export the settings so that other people can use them (NOTE: the export will use your file path information, this may need tweaking to use registry information where available).
